Situated in West Yorkshire, Huddersfield is a market town with a rich history, including being the birthplace of rugby league. Just travel a few miles out of town and you have the famous Castle hill or you can spend the day at Hebden Bridge or just a short pop through to Holmfirth and be the envy of your parents as you visit the set of the world renowned ‘Last of the Summer Wine’.
Shopping in the city has just stepped up a gear with the Kingsgate Shopping Centre which has an abundance of great places for you to splash some cash (don’t forget to take advantage of your student discounts!). There’s also The Packhorse Precinct and the Piazza Centre so you will never be short of a shop front to peruse! If you fancy a trip out a bit further, you can take a train or drive to Meadowhall in Sheffield or there’s Leeds city centre which is just 20 miles away.
Huddersfield’s nightlife has everything a student could possibly want for. Great bars, clubs and plenty of cheap nights out to fit any budget. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are especially popular for nights out and thanks to the late night bus service from the Digs campus, you’ll be ferried in and ferried home with no hassle. You’ll find the big chain bars such as Yates and Wetherspoons that offer great deals on food and drinks throughout the week and the “Camel Club” is hugely popular with past and present students as they play a wide selection of music genres; something to suit everyone! If you’re into live music “Vox” pulls a punch week on week for new live and tribute bands adding to Huddersfield’s reputation for being vibrant and action packed place to be.
Huddersfield is not only steeped in history but surrounded by cultural delights. Attractions such as the acclaimed Yorkshire Sculpture Park which is part of Europe’s leading open air art organisations is lucky enough to host some of the UK and international artist’s modern and contemporary work is within easy reach. Each year there’s the Huddersfield Festival of Light, which is an absolute must-see. It takes place in December in the town centre and includes a theatrical performance and a fireworks display.
